IASO Thessaly – Scientific Lectures 2025–2026 Carotid Disease: Modern diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
The new lecture of the annual cycle "Scientific Lectures 2025–2026", on the topic "Carotid Disease",
The keynote speaker was Mr. Nektarios K. Galanis, MD, PhD, Vascular Surgeon and Director of the First Vascular Surgery Clinic of IASO Thessaly, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Instructor of the Vascular International School (CH). The discussion was coordinated by the Director of Medical Service of IASO Thessaly, Dr. Apostolos Komnos, Anesthesiologist-Intensivist.
During the lecture, the current data on carotid artery disease, which is a significant risk factor for Stroke (S.A.E.), one of the leading causes of disability and mortality worldwide, were presented in detail. Particular emphasis was given to early diagnosis through Triplex carotids, the importance of investigating suspicious clinical findings, as well as risk stratification between asymptomatic and symptomatic patients.
Therapeutic strategies were developed that include both optimal conservative treatment and risk factor control, as well as invasive methods, such as carotid endarterectomy and angioplasty with stent placement, with reference to international guideline protocols and the criteria for selecting the appropriate method per patient.
With the continuation of the "Scientific Lectures 2025–2026" cycle, IASO Thessaly confirms its firm commitment to continuous scientific education, the dissemination of evidence-based knowledge and the implementation of modern medical practices, substantially contributing to the improvement of the prevention and treatment of serious vascular diseases.
